Businessman Gjergj Luca, on the show "Top Story" on Top Channel, has told for the first time his story with the media and the consequences it has brought him. He shared a story that happened a few years ago where he was publicly attacked, being unfairly accused of being connected to organized crime, which according to him has caused great economic and reputational damage.
Luca confessed that the Japanese embassy has apologized for the situation, while large companies like Mitsubishi and partners from Sweden have also asked him for explanations for articles accusing him of being a “drug kingpin” or “organised crime boss”. He stressed that this news has directly affected his exports, closing them for an entire year.
He recalled that five to six years ago, when this story began, he was forced to react publicly on social networks and then seek the help of institutions. Luca said that he respectfully addressed the head of SPAK, Altin Dumani, requesting a "check-up" for his image in the eyes of Albanian society.
The businessman added that he has opened legal proceedings against the portals, but they have dragged on with changes of judges and prosecutors. Meanwhile, during this period, according to him, surveillance groups from Sweden and Japan have been set up to check his balance sheets and economic activity, to verify the media's accusations.
" The damage they have done to me, the current situation and what I think this state or that parliament should do to return the entire Albanian society to normal. Then I'll tell you about my damage five or six years ago, when they attacked me. I didn't know this media history. I was extremely worried, I started going out on my networks, to give them answers. They weren't enough.
I went out, made a public request to Dumani, with all the great respect I have for the institution and for that man, to have me do a "check up": Who am I in front of Albanian society and do I have the right to come out with a voice and a figure to raise the problems that I find reasonable to raise in front of Albanian society?
Surely she was joking. I continued, I took them to court. Our trials continue. The judge has been changed twice, a portal, the prosecutor has been changed, who knows what. During this period, I received two letters: one from Sweden and one from Japan. From Sweden, from my colleagues with whom I work and have a turnover of about 50-60 million exports per year.
And from Japan, from a company that may be among the largest in the world, which is no secret, from Mitsubishi.
And they tell me: "Please, give us an explanation for these articles, because they talk very badly about you as a drug lord, organized crime boss, murderer, gang leader, and so on and so forth." These are your economic collaborators, who when they see such news, bring us economic harm.
I'm getting to the point where these people didn't understand my logic, that I explained to them what media means in Albania. And they set up three surveillance groups, one from Sweden and two from Japan. They completely blew my balance sheets, the state, everything.
The Japanese embassy called me. They said: “Sir, we apologize, this happened, I hope you look into it.” At the same time, I went to the embassy to see the others and they said: “We are surprised, but this is how this country is. We apologize, we will continue working.” Naturally, they followed me, they followed me for a season.
"They burned me for a season, they did me harm and they closed my exports for a year in a row, to prove the media's lies that they spout against people who want to change this country, " said Gjergj Luca.
