Former Prime Minister Sali Berisha says that yesterday's opposition protest "is only the beginning" of a civil disobedience that "has no strength to stop".
Berisha has made accusations against the law enforcement, claiming that they threw "toxic" gas, poisoning an entire neighborhood of Tirana as well as children returning from school.
Furthermore, Berisha said that the police fired "shotgun bullets" at the protesters. It is worth noting that during yesterday's protest there were no reports of gunfire, even with rubber bullets.
Part of Berisha's statement:
Yesterday's battle witnessed the awakening of the lion.
Yesterday's battle proved to be the great beginning of our mission to restore free voting in Albania.
The massive presence of young people in this battle was a great, white omen that the pain will not last long.
You criminals who poisoned an entire neighborhood even before the demonstrators arrived in front of parliament with toxic gas.
You who poisoned children coming home from school.
You who poured shotgun bullets on the citizens returning to the streets.
You drug bandits with these acts showed the hateful face of Edi Rama.
But you, true freedom fighters, were yesterday the conscience of you and your nation.
You were the voice of those who are silent.
You were the conscience of every European citizen who reacts courageously to every form of tyranny.
You who wanted to burn protesters alive for their political beliefs, you outdid the Taliban.
You are brothers with the Taliban.
That's why I tell you today that this was just the beginning.
My call once again, Albanians on their feet.
There is no force in the world that can stop us.
