Interior Minister Besfort Lamallari has reacted sharply after the decision to commute the sentence against the perpetrator of the murder of State Police officer Novruz Cenalia.
Through a public statement, Lamallari calls this decision "deeply disturbing", emphasizing that the event constitutes a direct attack on the state and the legal order, while warning of the consequences that a wrong message towards law enforcement could bring.
"The decision to mitigate the sentence against the perpetrator of the murder of a State Police employee is deeply disturbing. Although we are not yet familiar with the full reasoning, the murder of 'Eagles' officer Novruz Cenalia was an open attack on the state itself and the legal order. Such an act not only hurts the family of the deceased and discourages colleagues in uniform, but risks giving a wrong message to anyone who dares to oppose the law and the rule of law. We respect the independence of the judiciary, but we expect justice to be strong and live up to the responsibility it has towards citizens and towards those who protect order every day," he wrote on Facebook.
