BREAKING NEWS/ Albanian Xhevdet Plaku escapes from Ancona prison
Xhevdet Old Man

Xhevdet Plaku, 44 years old, with two murders on his back and charges of being an international drug trafficker, has escaped from prison in Italy.

A silent escape, without spectacle, but clearly meticulously planned. Since Thursday morning (January 24) around the Barcaglione prison, Ancona, the police have launched an operation to track him down, searching fields, abandoned houses and paths. But there is no trace of him.

The old man was a model prisoner in Ancona and in a few months he would have finished his sentence. This had enabled him three months ago to benefit from the regime provided for by article 21 of the Prison Code. Which means: work outside, without an escort. Yesterday morning at around 8.30 he went out to empty the garbage cans in the barracks. A daily routine, which seemed quite ordinary, but which turned into an escape, so far, perfect.

At 11:30, when prison officers made a routine check, the Old Man did not answer the call. Then, the alarm was immediately activated and all the law enforcement agencies began to search for him. The land around Barcaglione is vast, filled with fields, forests and old abandoned houses. But it is like looking for a needle in a haystack and the escaped prisoner seems to have disappeared into thin air.
