British comedian Russell Brand has been accused of rape and sexual assault.

The Metropolitan Police said they have charged Brand with one count of rape, one count of indecent assault, one count of oral rape and two counts of sexual assault.

He will appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on May 2.

Detective Supt Andy Furphy said "women who have made reports continue to receive support from specially trained officers."

"The Met's investigation remains open and detectives are asking anyone affected by this case, or anyone with any information, to come forward and speak to police. A dedicated team of investigators is available via email at [email protected]," he said.

Detectives began an investigation into Brand in September 2023 after receiving a series of allegations following an investigation by Channel 4's Dispatches and The Sunday Times newspaper.

Brand is accused of raping a woman in 1999 in the Bournemouth area and of oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in 2004 in the Westminster area of London.

He has also been accused of indecent assault on a woman in 2001 and sexual assault of another woman between 2004 and 2005 - both allegedly taking place in Westminster, London.
