Cocaine seized in Dublin

An Albanian criminal gang has smuggled cocaine worth 10.5 million euros from Mexico to Ireland, the Irish Sun reveals. But their distribution network has now been dismantled after the drugs were seized in Dublin Port.

The investigation was carried out by the Garda National Drugs and Organized Crime Bureau and the Revenue and Customs Service, however no arrests have yet been made as inquiries continue.

Investigators believe that the Albanian drug gang is cooperating closely with the Mexican ones.

The drugs came from Colombia and were transported through Mexico and destined for the European market.

It is believed that some of the packages may have been intended for the Irish market.

Suspected illegal drugs were detected an unaccompanied cargo unit which had disembarked a ferry was stopped and searched. The narcotics will be analyzed by Forensic Science Ireland (FSI).
