Many young Albanians travel the difficult road to get to England. The same is the case of a 20-year-old man from Tirana who has confessed all the vicissitudes.
"We went from Tirana to France by land, then from France to England we went by raft. All the way you were 5 thousand pounds. We stayed at sea for 10 hours, we were around 40 of these people and women and children with babies," he said in a television interview.
The decision to go to England, he tells us, came as a result of difficult conditions in Albania.
"It was a mandatory decision rather than a happy one. Finding a job in Albania is impossible. The state does not guarantee you any secure job, the bills only increased, the school fees were unaffordable for a family like mine "- says the young man.
The 20-year-old was going to graduate from the faculty of economics this year, but the flow of life took him in another direction, to a country house in England.
"The conditions and circumstances were such that I left... we discussed working at the bar house, here it is on a cycle basis at the moment the process ends depending on the result, 5-6 thousand pounds. I deal with irrigation, watering and pruning." - emphasizes the 20-year-old.
The young man from Tirana tells of the hours of horror, in the open sea. The fear that he would not make it alive, on many occasions made him wonder if it was the right choice.
"The moment you break away from the shore, it seems as if you have a small percentage of hope, until a moment when the dinghy ran out of gas. Fortunately, we managed to get in touch with the British police and they saved us, the dinghy was in the middle of the sea, water started to enter" - he underlines.
He says that he has no intention of returning to Albania, even if he is caught. According to him, the youth has been forgotten by the government.
"We are orphaned by the state, the more young people the more opportunities the traffickers give us than the state, the traffickers with illegal work give us more opportunities than our state" - he concludes
