Gladis Nano confesses to French television: How 14 crime "heads"
Gladis Nano

The former General Director of the State Police, Gladis Nano, gave an interview in the report "Exclusive Investigations" for the French television Metropole.

Nano has said, among other things, that during the time he was exercising his duties, 14 dangerous criminals escaped, this after the police operations to catch them were de-conspired.

"There was a leak of information, it could have come from those who carried out the investigation or from the operational teams," Nano told French television, adding that it is unclear where the information leaked from.

Nano's interview with French TV was carried out before he was fired from the position of director general of the State Police.

However, Nano has said that some characters of the underworld have been arrested during his leadership of the Police. "We targeted 32 and arrested 1, 2, 3, 4 ... Members of extremely violent gangs of drug trafficking and contract killings".

Nano further says that many judges and prosecutors have been dismissed due to the judicial reform, slowing down the work of law enforcement institutions.

"There is a reform of justice that is continuing at this moment. Prosecutors and judges have been fired and we are doing the same with our police officers. This will take some time. For this reason, I had to sanction many of my colleagues in very high positions. They were fired. This is because if one day we want to integrate into the EU, we have to overturn some rules. One of these is the fight against corruption".

The report highlights the radical changes that Albania has undergone in these 32 years of transition.

"Becoming part of Europe is their primary goal. Albanians are convinced that this will improve their image and increase the interest of foreign tourists", says the French reportage.
