On March 8, the Special Court against Corruption and Crime will hold a preliminary hearing for the former Minister of Defense, Fatmir Mediu, regarding the 'Gërdec' file. The judge, Irena Gjoka, will decide whether to proceed with the case for trial. 

On February 17, Judge Erjon Çela withdrew from the 'Gërdeci' file because he had previously expressed his opinion on this file, deciding not to reopen the investigations.

We recall that in 2021, Çela said that the accusations of abuse of office against the former minister were time-barred since since 2012 there has been no immunity that would hinder the investigations against him.

 But his decision was overturned by the Supreme Court, which listed several legal arguments as to why the criminal offense of abuse of office, in the case of Fatmir Mediu, even though 15 years had passed, has not been prescribed.
