The Special Court has ordered the seizure of two Albanian companies belonging to a group of people from Spain, suspected of being involved in an international cryptocurrency fraud scheme.

Financial authorities in Madrid believe that around 27,000 people, all with great financial potential, have fallen victim to the fraud. The total value of the fraud is suspected to be over 300 million euros, in what is considered the "Madeira Invest Club" affair.

The company operated as an anonymous investment fund. Clients were not required to give their names. To become part of the “club,” each of them had to invest a certain amount of money, starting at 1.5 million euros.

The key figure in the scheme, according to the National Securities Commission (CNMV), is Alvaro Romillo Castillo, known on crypto platforms as "Luis" or "Cryptospain".

“Luisi” communicated with his clients via the Telegram network. He promised various people that their investment would multiply in a short time, thanks to their conversion into cryptocurrencies and distribution to various global ventures.

Spanish authorities believe that the suspected criminal group, based in Madrid, had created a network of fictitious companies in Portugal, the United States, the Dominican Republic, Estonia and Albania.

Companies in Albania

Official records show that Albaro Romillo Castillo, "Luisi", as well as his close associates, created two companies in Albania in 2024.

The companies “Wortned” and “Wortonova” were registered at the National Business Center (NBC) on the same date, June 6, 2024. Their address is the same: Teodor Keko St., near Astri, in Tirana. The activity is the same: “Activity in the field of tourism, opening and management of hotels, buildings and premises in which hotel activity is carried out…”.

The company "Worned" is owned by Alvaro Romillo Castillo. The other company, "Wortonova" is owned by a citizen of Romanian origin, Mihaela Munteanu Manole, while the administrator is the same in both entities - Domingo Romillo Irarte, Alvaro's father.

The companies suspended their activities very quickly. "Worned" decided to temporarily stop in January 2025, while "Wortonova" only on October 15.

Just one day later, the National Business Center registered the seizure order, approved by the Special Court on October 2 of this year.

Albanian authorities have not made public, at least so far, the reasons for the blocking of companies with Spanish owners. However, data on the alleged fraudulent scheme "Madeira Invest Club" has been reported in the Spanish media, starting from October 2024.

The investigation by the Spanish Securities and Exchange Commission has gained media attention, especially after allegations that MEP Alvaro Perez was involved as a "client-investor." The latter has denied the authorities' allegations.

"Scheme" 300 million euros

In September 2024, Madeira Invest Club announced its closure, as soon as the National Securities Commission in Spain drafted the report on the alleged fraudulent scheme, as published by the Spanish newspaper El Confidential at the time.

In a video shared on the Telegram network, the masked figure behind the business, commonly known as "Luis" or "Cryptospain", informed customers of the closure of the business. He justified the cessation of activity with the investigation launched against the company.

Immediately after this video message, many investors on the "Madeira" platform found that all of the group's social media accounts had gone offline and the websites were no longer working.

In the video message, the character "Luis" invited customers to use a dedicated line on "Telegram", where more detailed information would be provided.

"Luis" explains that all of his investors must send all of their personal data to that email address, precisely the information that the company had previously assured them they would not need.

As a champion of privacy and an expert in tax evasion, “Luis” touted as his strongest point the fact that clients would not be identified and, consequently, could easily evade investigations into alleged tax evasion.

It's not Luis. It's Alvarez.

The media in Spain have done an extensive profile on the characters and how the "Madeira Invest Club" network operated.

According to them, behind the masked character "Luis" was Alvaro Romillo Castillo. His father, Domingo Romillo Iriarte, appeared on the website of the "Madeira Invest Club".

Anyone who wanted to pay for their membership with a bank transfer had to do so into Romillo Senior's (father's) account, which was located in Portugal.

Although the MIC and Cryptospain websites claimed to be registered in New Mexico and Orlando with fictitious companies, the account requesting the money was in the name of one of the Romillo companies, “Sabroso Lda”, based in Viseu (Portugal).

Domingo himself has another company related to Cryptospain's businesses and located in Estonia: "Elusionlegal OÜ".

The "Madeira Invest Club" network also had at least two companies in the Albanian capital.

Meanwhile, at one of the addresses declared by the company “Wortonova” in Tirana, there is currently another company, “B…D…A”. It is owned by two Spanish citizens, SM and FV, was opened at the same time and has an almost identical description of its activity as the two other “Albanian” companies of Alvaro Romillo Castillo.

However, it is not known whether this third company is part of the suspected fraudulent scheme and it does not appear to have been placed under seizure, at least as of the publication of this article. /boldnews
