This year, it is expected that there will be another decrease in the number of students who will sit on Monday in the school benches.
The Ministry of Education has postponed for the second time the deadline for the student registration process, giving it the opportunity until Sunday at 23:59, as a low number of registrations was seen.
The general directorate of pre-university education opened and closed the system for student registration twice.
The first deadline was from mid-August to September 1. It was then postponed until September 4 and a day earlier after seeing the low enrollment figures the process has been postponed until Sunday, a few hours before the start of the new school year.
The low number of students has also led to the closure of some schools in deep mountain villages.
In the village of Kokrevë in Librazhdi, the primary school was closed, as was the school in the village of Bletez in Gramshit.
Gramshi counts 7 gymnasiums, 3 of which this school year did not open the tenth grade as the determined number of 10 students per class was not met. In other schools, students are counted on their fingers.
Until now, there are nearly 27,000 students enrolled in the tenth grade, compared to a year ago, 1,000 students less were enrolled.
But there is also a significant decrease in the number of children who sit in the school pews for the first time, the official figures are expected to be made public on the first day of the new school year.
A year ago, about 450,000 students sat in the school benches, 30,000 students less than the previous year.
This decrease is expected to be significant this year as well, where in the first grades the low number of students is argued with the decrease in the number of connections, while the low number in the tenth grades reflects the emigration of Albanians to EU countries.
