The Minister of Justice, Ulsi Manja,  has stated that the prisons inherited from communism will be closed.

Minister Manja, in the Laws Commission, said that they are amortized structures and cost maintenance.

"In the future, because they have a master plan, Tepelena, Burreli, and 302 to Mine Peza will be closed," he said.

Ulsi Manja:

We have closed penal institutions and we will continue to close all penal institutions that we inherited from the time of communism.

In the future, because they have a master plan, Tepelena, Burreli, and 302 to Mine Peza will be closed. They are penal institutions inherited from the time of communism. They are amortized structures that cost us maintenance, we will close them. We are not opening new institutions. Kukësi replaces the one inherited from the system we had, but we transform it into a new modern institution, to serve the area, the system, but also Kosovo.

The second, the construction of the new juvenile institute, will be modern. Of course, it will be opened when the institution serving the sentence for minors in Kavaja is closed. Closure of old structures and service provision of new structures.

Regarding employment in prisons, we have not had any problems, we have implemented the legal framework, we have made attempts to employ them in the private sector, we have had requests, but we have not yet made possible the cooperation between the prison system and the private ones.
