The Special Court against Corruption and Organized Crime has sentenced former Judicial Police officer Igli Haxhiaj to 2 years and 8 months in prison, after finding him guilty of the criminal offenses of " Disclosure of secret acts or data", "Passive corruption of judges, prosecutors and other officials of the justice system " and " Abuse of office" .
The case was heard under summary trial procedure.
The panel, composed of judges Atalanta Zeqiraj, Marinela Osmani and Besmir Stroka, initially sentenced Haxhiaj to 4 years in prison, as a result of the consolidating sentences for the three criminal offenses. Due to the summary trial, the sentence was reduced by a third, ultimately set at 2 years and 8 months in prison.
The court also decided that Haxhiaj will serve his sentence in a regular security prison, while disqualifying him from holding public office for a period of 5 years. The sentence will be served from the date of his arrest, November 27, 2025.
According to SPAK investigations, Haxhiaj, in his capacity as a Judicial Police officer in the Directorate of the Special Operational Force, disclosed information that constituted an investigative secret within the framework of a proceeding for international drug trafficking, informing one of the persons under investigation that he was the subject of wiretapping and surveillance.
The Special Prosecution Office alleged that he provided this information in exchange for monetary benefits, specifically the amount of 15 thousand euros, as shown by communications conducted on the encrypted Sky ECC platform.
The investigations also revealed that Haxhiaj had developed communications on Sky ECC regarding the trafficking of narcotics, but had not fulfilled the legal obligations to refer and investigate these facts, which was considered by SPAK as abuse of office.
The criminal proceedings against Haxhiaj were part of a joint investigation between SPAK, the Anti-Mafia Prosecutor's Office of Brescia in Italy, and the Swiss Federal Prosecutor's Office, which led to the discovery of a structured criminal group involved in international drug trafficking from South America to Europe.
