The Berat Prosecutor's Office has signed arrest warrants for three people, including two inspectors from the National Food Authority, after a quantity of 8 tons of tomatoes exported to Croatia resulted contaminated with very high levels of the banned pesticide "Chlorfenapyr".

Under investigation are citizens MQ, the administrator of the entity, as well as inspectors RL and GD, inspectors of the AKU. They are accused of the criminal offense of 'Importing, producing, selling and storing food dangerous to human health or life', 'Fraud with food products' and 'Forgery of documents', as well as 'abuse of office'.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, Croatian authorities found and destroyed 8 tons of tomatoes exported by the subject, where analyses showed a level of chlorfenapyr 6 times above the permitted norm. Investigations revealed that the owner MQ had issued a fictitious purchase invoice from an unidentified farmer, in order to avoid responsibility for the product that was actually produced by him.

Meanwhile, the two AKU inspectors in Berat, during the inspection on August 29, 2025, filled out the official report as if there were no tomatoes in the warehouse and accepted the fictitious invoice as regular, without conducting any analysis.

The prosecution has seized and taken other samples from the subject's products, including tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers, which are suspected to be contaminated.
