A 37-year-old man named Sabit Haxhiaj was found dead at a train station in Strasbourg.

As Rue89Strasbourg reports, the deceased, originally from Kosovo, was sleeping in a shelter he had built himself. It is learned that the person who notified the authorities was a friend of his, who had spent the night with him.

As investigations into the incident have begun, concerns have been raised regarding the emergency accommodations for homeless people.

Foreign media reports that Haxhiaj had been living in France since he was a child and was a legal resident. A social worker who knew him expressed sadness over his death.

"Every day we have about 20 people seeking shelter and we can't accommodate everyone," she said.

While MP Floriane Varieras emphasized that "this case is related to the minimum temperatures and the lack of accommodation from the state."

In the period November 2023-November 2024 alone, 23 homeless people lost their lives in Strasbourg.
