Official: Gattuso leaves Italy coaching job

Gennaro Gattuso is no longer Italy coach, and it has been made official. The coach and the Italian Federation have terminated their contract.

The decision comes immediately after Italy's defeat to Bosnia, which knocked them out of the World Cup for the third time in a row.

The coach's departure follows the resignations of president Gabriele Gravina and head of delegation Gianluigi Buffon.

Gattuso remained in charge of Italy for nine months, during which time they failed to achieve their qualification target. In an official statement, the FIGC thanked the coach for his work, while Gattuso himself said that his departure was to facilitate the federation's new technical evaluations.

The names rumored to take charge of the team are Roberto Mancini, Massimiliano Allegri, Simone Inzaghi and Antonio Conte, but the final decision will be made after June 22, the date when the new FIGC president will be elected.

Meanwhile, U21 coach Baldini could lead the team in summer friendlies against Luxembourg and Greece.
