The Lubeck team from the Schleswig-Holstein region, which competes in Germany's fourth division, received bad news last week.

The club announced that it is facing bankruptcy and that in the next 48 hours they had to collect one million euros to save.

"A comprehensive analysis of the current financial situation has identified a significant lack of liquidity, which represents a major financial challenge for the Supervisory Board and management," the club's leaders wrote.

They asked for the help of their fans and any supporters to avoid bankruptcy.

"We call on everyone to stand by us in this difficult moment and think about how to support us. Any timely support is important, whether in the form of sponsorship, donations or other measures. Only together can we save Lübeck and overcome this existential crisis", the announcement said.

And Lubeck fans showed how ready they are to save their club. On Sunday afternoon, the club itself announced that it had managed to raise one million euros from fans, supporters and sponsors over the last few days.

At a Sunday evening mass in Lubeck attended by around 4,500 people, news of the rescue was officially announced to fans.

The club later wrote on its official social media channels: "Exciting, extraordinary, unique, this is history, although it is difficult to describe in words what we experienced, accumulated, shared and achieved together as the Lubeck family. We collected the necessary amount of one million euros, Lubeck is alive!".
