Fabio Capello

Fabio Capello spoke at length and about many topics on "Radio Anch'io lo Sport" on Rai Radio1:

Are the Italian teams finally ready for the Champions League?

I finally saw a match like the Champions League, real and played with competitive spirit, quality and technique and with fantastic refereeing, namely Lazio-Atalanta. We have to play at those levels, with the referees letting things flow. Football is physical and competitive spirit. We miss those things, but I really enjoyed this match. I also saw Barcelona-Villarreal; competitive spirit, speed and technique. We have to work hard for these things. Viewers have to get used to a game. Coaches should then play less goalkeepers, with players raising their arms whenever they are in trouble.

Was the win against Torino enough aspirin for Milan in view of Tottenham?

Milan took an aspirin against Torino. The formations are all valid, but if the players on the field play with fear, they play badly, as we saw in the first half. Tottenham are in deep trouble. Every counterattack they create a chance to score. We didn't see much of Tottenham recently, the midfield was missing, but so was the defense. However, I am convinced that having a team of top-level players will be able to create big problems for Milan, who will have to pay attention to the defensive phase.

How would he deal with Lea?

He is always a phenomenon. The only one who performed well was him, with a fantastic game. He cannot be left out of the lineup. Leo is essential, even if he's obviously not the same as last season. Maybe he is distracted now, like Zaniolo, because his mind is on contracts and not on the field. We have to give him some peace, but his departure from Milan does not help, on the contrary, it makes him even sadder. There are very important economic problems with Sporting, for which no one wants to pay. In terms of football, he and Theo are players who make the difference; do something more than others".

Is Napoli ready to play well in the Champions League?

He has already demonstrated this by playing at very high levels. I see a Napoli that is convinced that it has strength, quality, that knows how to stay on the field while respecting its opponents. There are players who can turn the tide at any moment.

After removing 15 points from Juventus, has the championship been deformed?

Juve was not actively participating for the title in this championship, it had to compete for the second place. Now we will see what happens with the appeal. Napoli continued to race fiercely for the title, while others made mistakes at crucial moments. There will be a strong race for second place.

We are seeing a lot of low quality foreigners in Serie A…

If you play with great players, you learn and improve. If you play with mediocre players, you have to be a genius to improve. Without these champions, it's hard to get new players to step up. As for young Italians, Juventus set an example. The Whites have activated many young Italians, despite the fact that we are talking about a high-level team. My colleagues should be braver with young Italians. The coffers of Italian football are empty and you cannot compete with the best international clubs. However, Napoli can make a miracle in the Champions League. I think he is one of the favorites even in the international arena.

Monza sees from the European Cups…

Credit goes to Galliani and Berlusconi, who always manage to stimulate their coaches and find the right players. Palladino has great merit. He tiptoed in, but it was immediately clear that he had very clear ideas.

Can you play without being offside?

I believe that the offside position is very important for football. Without it, all movements would be distorted. There are "offside" millimeters, which makes you sad. Body position should be studied better. A more serious decision must be made. This is indecipherable, I do not accept that a goal is disallowed by millimeters. We need something different, I know they are studying, let's see what the decision will be.

Ancelotti, the new coach of Brazil?

It would be interesting, Ancelotti is the best of all our coaches. National team training is very different. I managed England because it was a dream. Brazil could be a last career dream for Ancelotti as well.
