Inter fear for Dumfries, City ready to pay clause

Denzel Dumfries' future could soon change direction. The Inter right-back, one of the key players in the black and blue team, is at the centre of a potential transfer market explosion.

The Dutchman's contract contains a release clause of 25 million euros, valid until July 15. A figure that is within reach of many major European clubs, which would allow them to negotiate directly with the player without going through the black and blue club's offices.

There has been much talk in recent days of potential interest from Barcelona, ??a club that has been on Dumfries' trail for some time. However, restrictions related to Financial Fair Play have forced the Catalans to take a step back.

And while Barça is retreating, a new and much more dangerous scenario is opening up for Inter. According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester City have included Dumfries in their list of reinforcements for the right wing, after the sale of Kyle Walker to Burnley. A profile, that of the black and blue full-back, that convinces Pep Guardiola of his physical characteristics, attack and adaptability to the Citizens' playing system.

The news is worrying for Inter, the English club will have no difficulty paying the €25m release clause, especially after a pharaonic start to the market that has already seen the arrival of Reijnders, Ait-Nouri and Cherki for a total of more than €130m. For Inter, the loss of Dumfries in mid-July would mean they have to put things right very quickly.

The clause puts everything in the player's hands and the risk of a surprise departure is more concrete than ever.
