Inter defeats Cagliari

Inter continued their winning streak in Serie A by triumphing 3-0 over Cagliari at the "Unipol Domus", catching Atalanta with 40 points at the top of the standings, while the latter have a match to play.

Cagliari, after a narrow defeat to Venezia, tried to react, but facing the Blues, unbeaten in their last 11 league matches, was a difficult challenge. In the first half, Lautaro Martínez wasted a golden opportunity, sending the ball over the crossbar after a perfect cross from Nicolò Barella.

Although Cagliari created some dangerous counterattacks, the first half ended goalless, preserving Inter's record as the only team not to have been at a disadvantage at half-time this season.

The second half began with Inter dominating, with Alessandro Bastoni opening the scoring with a header. Lautaro Martínez scored the second goal, breaking an eight-match scoring drought, while Hakan Çalhanoğlu sealed the victory from the penalty spot.

National team midfielder Kristjan Asllani was activated for only 10 minutes at the end of the match, replacing Mikhtaryan.

This was Inter's 27th win of 2024, ending the year on a high note. Meanwhile, Cagliari continues to struggle, recording their 10th defeat and remaining in the relegation zone.
