Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic said Thursday he will not be able to travel to New York to compete at the US Open, the last Grand Slam of the year starting next week, after refusing to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
Current rules require travelers to testify that they have been fully vaccinated to enter the United States of America.
"Unfortunately, I won't be able to travel to New York this time for the US Open," Djokovic wrote in Titter.
"I wish my friends good luck! I'll be in good shape and positive spirits and wait for another opportunity to race again," he said.
The tennis player said earlier that he was prepared to miss Grand Slam tournaments that require participating players to be vaccinated against COVID-19.
The 35-year-old was also unable to defend his Australian Open title earlier this year after being deported from the country due to unvaccinated status.
