Fabio Capello has had the honor of managing "galactic" teams during his career. Especially Real Madrid, filled with extraordinary champions, capable of winning and providing spectacle at the Bernabéu.
But in addition to this, he has also managed Milan, Roma, with which he won the last title in the history of the yellow club, and Juventus.
During an interview for RSI on the LARMANDILLO program, on the occasion of the first episode of the second season of the podcast, Capello talked about everything.
In addition to current topics, he also spoke about Juventus and the changes on the bench, but especially about his past at Real Madrid.
An important experience, where he had to manage a group of phenomenal, great champions – the Galacticos – who were often more difficult to manage than to train.
One of them was Ronaldo "The Phenomenon", whom Capello considers the best player he has ever coached, along with Roberto Baggio. But despite his extraordinary talent, he was forced to leave the team: "He managed to weigh 94 kg and Milan still decided to take him, despite what I told Berlusconi."
"Ronaldo had to leave for us to win the championship"
Capello was asked specifically about Ronaldo and the challenge of managing such a champion: "The best players I have trained are Roberto Baggio and Ronaldo. But I had to leave Fenomeno to win the championship. He weighed 94 kg and I tried to manage him, but... it was not possible."
After leaving Real Madrid, Ronaldo moved to Milan. Before signing, the club's directors asked for the opinion of coach Capello: "I didn't 'sell' him to Milan, I even told everything to President Berlusconi. But they thought they were right and not me, to have sent him away."
Why did Ronaldo leave Real Madrid?
But what was the real reason for the departure of the Brazilian Ronaldo? Capello explained that it was not just about excess weight or physical condition. In the studio he was compared to Adriano at Inter, because of his not very disciplined private life. Capello explained: "You are talking to me about Adriano as an individual, who did not live a life suitable for an athlete. Whereas Ronaldo brought many players to his villa and the situation became much more complicated. Precisely for this reason, with regret, I took that decision".
