Student groups emerging from the protests are now organizing in various forms to offer a political alternative. The Nationalist Youth is one of them.
"The desire to change the system should now be channeled from the public into a political movement. We are not currently at the party stage, but we want to reach that stage. So, we want to show our people the reality and show them that we are the true opposition," said Besart Capa, member of the Nationalist Youth.
The nationalist youth group that aims to turn into a political party has not yet appointed a leader, but it has 300 members so far and the internal group consists of 15 students who were recognized at the protest.
Laura Kërtalli, the representative (and leader) of this new force, recently held a meeting with EU officials in Albania. Besart Capa, part of the Nationalist Youth, tells us about the conversation with them.
"The meeting with them is to let them know that a new spirit has been born in Albania that in the future seeks to become a political factor. They said that we need to accelerate the steps to become a political party, so that it will be easier for them to cooperate with a genuine party," he declared.
The student list is another protest effort to highlight non-partisan figures that the country needs. LS was created online by a technology professional who will not be identified, who has brought a digital platform where names of public importance are proposed and voted for by Albanians through a verified Google account that has already registered over 17,000 votes. Asked via email what the list of voted figures will be used for, it is said that:
"The Student List was born from the desire to create a space where citizens can propose people they value, express support for them and discuss ideas for the future. We often hear that "there are no good people" or that "the choice is between the same". The goal is for the discussion to go beyond dissatisfaction and include concrete proposals. The list is not an official list of candidates for election".
The student list is coming in the form of a survey, but although the idea of preparing for the electoral campaign is not denied, it is clarified that the rules of candidacy require a different process. (TCH)
