At the Tirana Bypass construction site, one of the important road infrastructure projects, work is continuing.

With a length of 21 kilometers, this axis aims to create a direct connection between the Tirana-Durres highway and the Tirana-Elbasan highway, avoiding passing through the capital and enabling the connection with the Blue Corridor axes.

At the construction site, Prime Minister Edi Rama was accompanied by the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Enea Karakaçi, and the Director of the Albanian Road Authority, Ami Kozeli.

"It is a very important segment because it connects the Durrës - Tirana highway with the Tirana - Elbasan highway. We connect from the Kashari junction and exit at TEG, bypassing the entrance to Tirana. Here we are in the first 10 kilometers which are financed and contracted by the ARA. The works have progressed well, we are at the level of about 50% of the works carried out in the two lots that have been contracted. The next part, because the entire axis is 21 kilometers, the next 11 kilometers is financed by the EBRD for which we have also received a 40% grant, about 53 million euros from the Western Balkans Investment Framework.

We expect to approve the financing agreement with the EBRD within the first quarter of 2027 to begin the continuation of works on the remaining 11-kilometer segment.

The lots that ARRSH has contracted are over 50% of the level of works and this is important because it connects the two concessions of the Blue Corridor, Thumanë - Kashar with Kashar-Lekaj.

"We will start construction by the end of the year. By November, I anticipate the first expropriations of the Kashar-Rogozhina concession and by the end of the year, work will begin on this important axis that will then connect the entire Blue Corridor. And in this sense, the segment that we just saw, the Tirana bypass, serves as a very good valve because, in addition to eliminating the need to enter Tirana for each segment in the south, it also connects the Blue Corridor," said the Minister of Infrastructure and Energy.

The project is expected to ease traffic, shorten travel times and improve vehicle circulation, creating an important alternative for movement towards the south and southeast of the country.

"What everyone should keep in mind in this area is the significant increase in the value of their property, while without question any expropriation will be done properly, with transparency according to the law and in the meantime it will be an axis that will free the capital from an excessive load which is a forced load as a result of the lack of this axis where everyone enters Tirana. Thus, part of the flow will continue freely towards the south or southeast, depending on the directions and the rest will have more freedom to enter and exit the capital", emphasized the Prime Minister.

Upon its completion, the Tirana Bypass will mark another important step in the transformation of the country's road infrastructure, giving the capital more breathing space, faster travel, and the Blue Corridor a direct connection to the south of Albania.
