Veliaj's dismissal, the Prefect of Tirana sends the proposal to the Council

A day after the Tirana Municipal Council voted in favor of dismissing Mayor  Erion Veliaj , the proposal was sent to the Council of Ministers through the Prefect of Tirana.

A government meeting is now expected for Veliaj to be dismissed by decision of the Council of Ministers. 

So far, Erion Veliaj has chosen not to make any reaction to the decision-making of the Municipal Council, to which he a few days ago requested the opportunity to be heard, before filing the dismissal papers.

However, his defense lawyers have warned that they will pursue every legal avenue against Veliaj's dismissal from office.

The dismissal decision, which will pave the way for early elections in Tirana, is expected to be opposed by Erion Veliaj.

The latter has the right to appeal the decision to the Constitutional Court within 15 days. The Constitutional Court is then the body that issues the verdict.
