The Democratic Party has reacted to the ceremony organized by Prime Minister Edi Rama , during which medals of honor were awarded to firefighters , Armed Forces and Emergency teams who were engaged in combating fires this summer.
In a statement to the media, the DP described this ceremony as " a mockery " of the real sacrifice of those who fought the flames, emphasizing that gold, silver or bronze medals cannot replace the lack of infrastructure, means, salaries and institutional treatment.
" Ramaduro handed out medals as if it were a sports championship, while firefighters and military personnel faced the flames with pine branches and shovels," the PD declares .
The DP emphasizes that despite the maximum appreciation for the firefighters' dedication, it sharply criticizes the government, which it holds responsible for the catastrophic damage balance, due to the lack of funds and preparation.
According to the DP, Albania has suffered 2-3 times more damage from fires, compared to other countries in the region or Europe.
The statement concludes with the warning that justice will not forget those responsible for what the DP describes as the "state crime" of burning national property.
