Today, President Bajram Begaj convened the National Security Council, where he emphasized that cyber attacks and the measures taken by Albania in this field to protect themselves.

In his speech, Begaj drew attention to the attack from Iran, last year, saying that cyber attacks have increased in quantity, but have also become more sophisticated, therefore he adds that it is time for reflection.

" A year ago, we faced very serious, complex and sophisticated cyber attacks. The attacks aimed at destroying the digital infrastructure of the Republic of Albania, with the aim of promoting instability in the country. Our institutions made it possible for the actors who undertook these attacks not to realize their full intent. I highly appreciate the work done by the institutions.

Cooperation with strategic partners USA, EU, NATO has enabled the training of specialists, experts, etc. The new law on cyber security and the national cyber security strategy will best serve to build modern capacities. Despite the measures taken, cyber threat actors, mainly supported and financed by the Islamic Republic of Iran, have expanded their activity.

Cyber ​​attacks have increased both in quantity, but also become more sophisticated. One year after the attacks, it is time to reflect on what we have done, how prepared we are in the face of possible attacks. Deciding where to focus our efforts and investments to further strengthen cyber defenses.

In addition to cyber security, we will also discuss other issues of importance for national security. The discussions during the KSK also on the threats coming from Iran in the form of propaganda and in hybrid forms ", said Begaj.

All responsible institutions will inform the National Security Council about the measures taken in October 2022 and January 2023.
