The Italian Foreign Minister, Antonio Tajani, is visiting Albania today, while he will also meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama.

The focus of the visit is the issue of the agreement between the two countries for immigrants. The Italian Foreign Minister is expected to visit Shengjin.

We recall that on December 13, the Constitutional Court considered the request made by 30 MPs of the Bardhi-Berisha group against the agreement with Italy for African immigrants, automatically suspending it until a final decision is given by the court.

The first session is expected to be held on January 18, 2024 where the parties will present their claims and then within 3 months, the Constitutional Court must make a decision on the agreement. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni said that she respected the court's decision and that she would wait until a final decision. According to the agreement, the landing port will be Shengjini, while Gjadri will be the camp where their accommodation will be built. The maximum host capacity is 3 thousand beds.
