The Democratic Party has urgently requested an interpellation with Prime Minister Edi Rama to provide clarifications regarding the agreement signed today with the Italian counterpart, Giorgia Meloni, to turn Albania into a host country for immigrants.

The request to summon the prime minister to a plenary session to provide clarifications was submitted by the vice-president of the DP, Kreshnik Çollaku.

In this request, DP requests that the Albanian government provide clarifications regarding this agreement saying that there is no transparency from the Albanian side, while the Italian side has echoed this pact with our government.

"The agreement was announced by the Italian prime minister, while the Albanian side has so far made no announcement.

Prime Minister Meloni explained that it has been agreed to use some areas of Albania as a host country for refugees, to enable their selection, in order to decide whether they have the right to benefit from asylum or not.

According to the Italian media, this receiving base will be Shengjini, where up to 36,000 immigrants can arrive in a year, as the Italian Prime Minister has stated," says the reaction of the DP.

According to the agreement, Albania will have two camps for the reception of illegal immigrants, one in Shengjin and one in Gjadër, where only those immigrants who are caught at sea, on the coast of Italy, will be housed. Meloni said that their number can range from 3,000 per month to 36,000 per year.
