"There is no more alibi", Basha brings to the Parliament the draft law
Lulzim Basha

The head of the Democratic Party, Lulzim Basha, submitted today to the Parliament the draft law on the "vetting of politicians" which, according to him, aims to reveal the hidden assets of politicians, the cases when they lied about their assets or their connections with organized crime.

Basha said during a video conference that this draft law foresees the restructuring of the ILDKP, giving it new powers to carry out checks on politicians in cooperation with SPAK and BKH.

Basha's statement:

Today I have submitted the draft law on the vetting of politicians in the Parliament of Albania. As I announced a few weeks ago, the DP working group, the best lawyers we have prepared a draft law that enables the detailed control of the wealth of every politician of his family or social circle, as well as inappropriate connections or in other words, the cooperation of a politician with organized crime.

There are two principles that apply in this bill. The first: Follow the money, that is, the money of corruption, the money of the corrupt politician hidden in any form, is tracked through the instruments given to the authority for the fight against corruption, in other words a reformed and strengthened ILDKP. And secondly, as far as criminal connections are concerned, the same authority is empowered to, in cooperation with the SPAK, the BKH and the intelligence services, verify whether a politician is lying or telling the truth when he declares every year that he has no contact with inappropriate, in other words contacts with the world of organized crime. This is a model that is in total compliance with the Constitution of Albania, with the European charter of human rights, but at the same time enables Albanian politicians to be subject to the same control that magistrates and prosecutors are subject to today, but so are the employees of the police and the guard of the Republic.

The bill has been tabled, there is no more alibi. Now is the moment that, through their vote, every deputy of the Assembly of Albania should express themselves and not hide, and through the vote of the vetting law of politicians, we should show the Albanians who are the corrupt politicians who should leave and leave the mandate of them, who are the politicians connected to crime who can no longer stand to protect the interests of the public when in fact they promote the interests of those who have brought them and clean up politics by giving Albania and Albanians a clean politics from corruption and connections with organized crime.
