Elona Meço: Are you a bridge of communication between the USA and Berisha?

Ilir Meta: You asked me about my relationship between the USA and Berisha. They are two different things. My relationship with democracy, pluralism, the Constitution and European integration is sacred. This should be the first. Mr. Berisha was elected by PD through a very transparent process that all Albanian citizens have seen. He enjoys my respect as the leader elected by DP members. Mr. Berisha and PD have a very clear position on the integration of Albania into the EU and we have worked with him on the liberalization of visas, on Albania's membership in the EU, on fulfilling the obligations that come as a NATO member country and not we forget that Mr. Berisha has a special contribution and role for Albania's membership in NATO. Now for Mr. Berisha's relationship with the USA. I was in the coalition with Mr. Berisha in the period 2009-2013. And for an issue that had to do with national security, a law that violated an obligation to NATO, in the event that the law was not returned, i.e. not approved, that I would resign and leave the coalition with DP, because we did not want to harm the relations between Albania and NATO. It was about the SHISH law. He and PD were understanding, as they realized that despite the fact that they might have a right in the matter in question, the interest in the relationship with NATO was higher. So, I know how to harmonize, to coexist with all actors, in the best interest of the country. What interests me is the long-term interest of the country. that we did not want to damage the relations between Albania and NATO. It was about the SHISH law. He and PD were understanding, as they realized that despite the fact that they might have a right in the matter in question, the interest in the relationship with NATO was higher. So, I know how to harmonize, to coexist with all actors, in the best interest of the country. For the interest of the country, I have no problem even contacting Mr. Rama, but I have certainly ruled out the possibility of informal meetings, because it is known that he is an extraordinary diversionist and speculator. I have no problem, on the contrary, asking the MPs of the Freedom Party to vote for everything that serves European integration.

Elona Meço : So you are saying that you have contacts or not?

Ilir Meta: No, I don't have any kind of contact.

Elona Meço: Not even with Mr. Veliaj? He is also an important pole of power.

Ilir Meta: I have no contact and personal interest in the Municipality of Tirana, neither today nor ever in the future.
