Prime Minister Edi Rama has condemned the incident that happened today, where 31-year-old Gerti Shehu punched former Prime Minister Sali Berisha before the start of the protest.

This is stated in the reaction of the Prime Minister. It is further added that violence will never be a means to address any issue or concern and whoever uses this means must face the full force of the law.

"The Prime Minister of Albania, Edi Rama, unequivocally condemns the unjustifiable and intolerable act of violence against the organizer and leader of today's protest! Violence has not been, is not and will never be a means to address any issue or nuisance and anyone using this tool should face the full force of the law." said in response.

Also, there was a reaction from President Bajram Begaj, who strongly condemns the attack, encouraging the law-enforcement bodies for a full investigation and clarifying the dynamics of the event.

Begay's reaction:

The President of the Republic of Albania, Sh. TZ Bajram Begaj, condemns the physical attack on Mr. Sali Berisha.

The President of the Republic of Albania, Sh. TZ Bajram Begaj strongly condemns the physical attack that occurred during today's opposition protest against Mr. Sali Berisha, Member of Parliament, former President and former Prime Minister of the Republic.

President Begaj considers these acts unacceptable and contradicting the principles of democracy and the development of peaceful protests.

The Head of State encourages the authorities to investigate this case of violence and clarify the dynamics of the event as soon as possible.

Freedom of speech and peaceful assembly are constitutional rights and as such must be guaranteed and protected.
