The Supreme Court made it known that during this year it has significantly reduced the number of court proceedings gathered in years.

The President of the Court, Sokol Sadushi, stated today that this year the confidence was created that the judiciary was resurrected and is functioning.

The court already has 15 judges, who are filling the gaps and 3 more judges are waiting for the new year.

He said that reducing the extremely high number of backlog cases was and continues to remain one of the main challenges of the judiciary.

The data show that currently the number of backlog cases is 29 thousand 10 files out of 36 thousand cases that were waiting to be judged in March 2020, while 11 thousand 764 decisions have been made.

Mr. Sadushi emphasized that this year the number of decisions issued by the Supreme Court is (6 thousand 179) three times higher than the newly entered cases (2 thousand 82), significantly reducing the number of cases awaiting trial .

Each judge has made 412 decisions this year, against 256 decisions per judge, which were given 5 years ago, demonstrating a high performance, over 270 percent, in shifting cases.

"The justice reform was worth it and it is obvious that justice is being done. "The reform of justice brought about its functioning, starting with prevention, education, investigation of violations, punishment up to the delivery of the court decision", emphasized Mr. Sadushi.

The Supreme Court is on the way to fully resolving the concern over the high number of appeals, the vast majority of which, about 80 percent, do not pass the admissibility test.

Public institutions withdrew 1 thousand 893 appeals this year, while 993 decisions have been given so far to waive recourse. "This trend can prevent the creation of a new stock", said Mr. Sadushi.

Public institutions lost trials this year in 2,355 administrative and civil cases (or 76% of cases), while individuals lost 728 trials (or 24 percent of cases)./VOA
