Emiriana Sako replaces Veliaj at the head of the National Association!

The Assembly of the National Association of Municipalities has elected the Mayor of Durrës, Emiriana Sako, as head of the organization, replacing Erion Veliaj.

The decision was made at yesterday's meeting, where the majority of left-wing municipal leaders voted for the change.

The position of president of the Association has been held for years by Veliaj, in his capacity as head of the Municipality of Tirana.

The decision comes a few days before the Tirana Municipal Council meeting, which has on its agenda the dismissal of Veliaj from the position of Mayor of Tirana.

Erion Veliaj will no longer be president of the National Association of Municipalities.

The decision was made by the Association's Assembly at the meeting held on Friday, where it was also decided that the mayor of Durrës, Emirjana Sako, would be appointed as the head of this association.

The municipal council meeting to dismiss Veliaj is scheduled for September 23rd, and then the procedure will move to the Council of Ministers, which, after dismissing the mayor, will notify the president, who will decree the date of early elections no later than 45 days from the moment of notification.

The Association's assembly is overwhelmingly composed of mayors of Left-wing municipalities, while opposition mayors also participated.
