The second round in the Assembly for the election of the new President of the Republic also failed. The parties did not submit any names for voting.
Initially, some names were proposed by PD deputies, but they were not subsequently selected to be taken to the Assembly, as Alibeaj withdrew from the negotiations claiming that the SP violated the agreement.
The Conference of Mayors will convene next to determine the date of the third round, which must be no later than 7 days from the date of the second round.
Asked by reporters after the end of the plenary session, Rama said that they do not have a partner to elect the President in these rounds, while adding that they have not yet decided on the candidacies who they will propose. He also spoke out against the formula proposed by the head of the DP parliamentary group, Enkelejd Alibeaj.
"Now we need two for tango, we can not do tango alone, we do not have a partner. We are at a very advanced stage of dialogue and cooperation with neighbors. We will succeed in achieving what we aim at by treating it with respect. Deal with the profile those who do not want to deal with the solution. The solution is a man who fulfills the obligations we have to Albanians to free that office from the clutches of the past.
We have not decided, that if we had done it we would have announced it and we would have waited to vote for it. We have followed this process patiently listening to everyone and all sorts of wonders. We are becoming increasingly clear that we have no partners. Politics is interaction. It is dialogue. It's chess. And in all that politics is the word I have no faith and go in the direction of the ignorant has nothing to do with politics. We had two choices when we were in opposition. When we did not have the votes but we had enough votes to bring the other party to the table. We sat down again. We gave options and discussed options. We did not lose in that process. The opposition is not there to impose either as I say or not.
President Meta has never been anything other than part of the opposition. What we will do is we will wait in the third round and if it will be the same result we will gather and talk to the party leadership. "Certainly we will not leave the country without a president" , said Rama
