The President of the Republic, Ilir Meta, has reacted for the first time regarding the return of Sali Berisha at the head of the Democratic Party, through the elections held by the Re-establishment Commission on May 22.
Asked by Kosovar journalists, while visiting the municipality of Junik, the head of the Albanian state said briefly that in a democracy, the vote must be respected.
Question: Mr. President, how do you assess the election of Mr. Sali Berisha as Chairman of the Democratic Party?
Meta: In a democracy, the vote and the will of the citizens must be respected!
It is worth mentioning the fact that Berisha and Meta co-governed during the mandate 2009-2013, when the latter was at the head of the SMI, while even today they maintain a good relationship with each other and the possibility of cooperation in the opposition is not excluded when Meta to leave the Presidency.
