The Chairman of the Opportunity Party, Agron Shehaj, stated this evening that he felt betrayed by the Democratic Party regarding the negotiations for the selection of a joint opposition candidate.

This is because, according to him, Democratic Party leader Sali Berisha came out without asking to declare that he would support Florjan Binaj, despite the fact that they were still in the negotiation process.

"We have not spoken about any names, we have never mentioned names in public, we have only spoken about the principle. We are proud because thanks to our proposal, it actually raised hope, because at first they said no, we need a candidate with a political profile, then a little political and not political. We were forced to put forward a proposal because they said what you are saying is ideal, but you have names. And we proposed Ermal (he is talking about Ermal Hasimjan). We are proud of both the proposal and Ermal. It ended in the worst possible way, we were betrayed. We talked about coming up with a candidate outside the opposition parties to go beyond ourselves. This is a fact. It ended in the worst possible way. They betrayed us. The DP betrayed us because they told us the proposal is good, let's talk about names. Despite this, the leader of the Mundësia party stated that they will still support Florjan Binaj's candidacy.

"I am speaking bluntly. We will support the non-political candidate as we promised, we will support Binaj, despite the fact that he is not the candidate we proposed, but we will support him until the end. We support him, we are coherent with what we have said since day one. We need a non-political candidate, a candidate like Binaj has emerged who meets all the conditions. Despite the problems with the DP, the main goal is to give Tirana an uncorrupted candidate. The name has never been a condition from us," Shehaj emphasized.

He added that they would even support him " as if he had been our candidate!"
