The President of the Republic of Albania, Bajram Begaj, in his speech at the General Debate of the 80th Session of the United Nations Assembly, which also coincides with the 70th anniversary of Albania's membership in the UN, emphasized our country's commitment to the values of the United Nations Charter, peace, equality and multilateral cooperation.
"We must choose cooperation over contradictions, dialogue over division, and solidarity over indifference," said President Begaj, emphasizing the role of the UN as the global platform to address responses to common challenges.
The President emphasized that Kosovo deserves its place in the UN General Assembly, while underlining Albania's role as a promoter of stability in the region.
"17 years after declaring independence, Kosovo has shown through its actions that it is a responsible member of the international community, committed to peace, stability and democratic values. With strong institutions and a vital population, its contribution to regional and wider cooperation is undeniable. However, Kosovo's place in this Assembly remains unjustly empty. Recognizing Kosovo's independence, supporting its membership in the United Nations and other international organizations is an act of justice towards the people of Kosovo, it is a step that further strengthens peace and security in the Western Balkans and a contribution to the stability of Europe," said Begaj.
Begaj paid attention to the request for respect for the rights of Albanians living in the Presevo Valley.
"Albania demands that the rights and freedoms of the Albanians of the Presevo Valley be respected, that the Albanians there are not discriminated against, but are integrated, that the Albanian language is used, and that their culture, values, identity and traditions are protected and promoted."
In his speech, he focused on current global crises, reiterating Albania's unwavering support for Ukraine's sovereignty and condemnation of Russian aggression. President Begaj confirmed Albania's position that the war in Gaza must end, all hostages must be released, and the humanitarian situation must be addressed urgently.
"We condemn Russia's continued attacks on Ukraine and recent provocative incidents against our NATO allies. At the same time, we appreciate the diplomatic efforts, under the leadership of President Trump, for a just, lasting peace that fully respects the sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
"Albania is equally committed to peace, security and stability in the Middle East. The war in Gaza must end, all hostages must be released and the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza must be addressed urgently," said Begaj.
Begaj emphasized Albania's commitment to EU integration by 2030, green transition, sustainable development, gender equality and youth empowerment. He stated that in the face of challenges such as climate change, artificial intelligence and global insecurity, international cooperation is key.
"Albania has shown that dialogue, partnership and shared values can transform societies. We will continue to work so that our children live in a safer world, with dignity and in peace," concluded President Begaj, calling for unity, responsibility and courage in facing global challenges.
