Plane to put out the fires?, Peleshi: We can't handle it! The world helps

Albania cannot afford the purchase and maintenance of any firefighting aircraft, according to a statement made by Defence Minister Niko Peleshi to the Security Commission, where he defended the bill for military police.

"We're a small country. It's not worth investing in having a plane that costs 50ml euros. We are not at that stage investing 50 ml euros to use it for only a month, add here the maintenance costs that are very high," said Minister Niko Peleshi.

According to Pelesh, Albania has good co-operation with other countries that have these capacities and help us in cases of fires.

During debates in this commission, opposition MPs raised the question of why the country should not have a firefighter aircraft, as long as the Prime Minister is moving with 'charter'. But Peleshi reacted by saying that the charter was about the dignity of the state.

Peleshi blamed local government for the fires.

"The problem begins from the reaction of the local government. From the community and the old man of the village. We're the last thing. We have a responsibility to coordinate emergencies. We don't have the firefighters. Firefighters have municipalities. From the moment there is a small hearth, firefighters must react," he said.
