The President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, says that it is possible for Albania to become part of the European Union even before 2030, if it continues reforms at this pace.

In a joint conference with Prime Minister Edi Rama, Costa was asked whether the objective set by the Socialist government is realistic or not.

"Why not, if it continues at this pace, it is possible even before 2030. The EU will closely monitor Albania's progress," said Costa.

Prime Minister Edi Rama has set a target of 2030 for Albania's EU membership, a deadline he used during the election campaign that won him a fourth term in office. But many have called this goal unattainable.
