The counting of the votes of the candidates for the Tirana District continues, with over 2/3 of the ballot boxes read, confirming the lead of Blendi Gonxhja, who has just surpassed the most voted candidates of the 2021 elections, namely Fatmir Xhafaj who reached 16,738 votes, Orlando Rakipi who reached 15,697 votes and Belinda Balluku who was third with 15,361 votes, becoming the most voted candidate ever in the Tirana District, with 18,280 as of 16:20 on May 15.
And this year the competition was fiercer as 37 candidates on the open list fought for 7-8 places, with the top 12 on the closed list, while in 2021 36 candidates fought with a predetermined ranking, where 18 of them felt safe, with only 2 quorum breaks.
And while Interior Minister Ervin Hoxha has activated the entire mega structure of OSHEE, which is headed by his brother, has lined up inspectorates and police, guards, up to the Illyrian Guard, Minister Blendi Gonxhja has under his control some Museums and Theaters, ISSH and several directorates that are much less spread out in the territory and with much fewer staff and much more technical sectors.
The result so far indicates much more popular and broad support for Minister Gonxha, a very public figure with a very active past in politics and administration, at the municipal and central government levels.
It remains to read the preferential vote of the diaspora to understand the final ranking, but so far it is worth highlighting that this year's elections brought more rivalry and energy from the open list, bringing more voters closer to the screens as if it were a strong sports match with fever and many fans, perhaps in a month where Inter's Blendi Gonxhja's team also dreams of the Champions League title!
