SPAK has completed the property investigations and has sent for trial the proceeding no. 5 of 2025, requesting the confiscation of 16 immovable properties directly or indirectly owned by Nikolin Gjolenës, Klevent Gjolenës and persons related to them. The properties, located in Tirana and Durrës, have a market value exceeding 2 million euros.
The request was filed on November 6, 2026, at the Special Court of First Instance, based on the anti-mafia law, which provides for preventive measures against assets suspected of originating from criminal activity.
The property investigation is related to criminal proceedings registered against Nikolin and Klevent Gjolena for drug trafficking, organized criminal group, and commission of criminal offenses by a criminal organization or organized criminal group.
The case relates to the seizure of 485.5 kilograms of cocaine on November 24, 2022, in the village of Frakull e Madhe, Fier. The quantity of drugs was hidden in a shipment of artificial organic fertilizer, which was transported from Colombia to Albania.
For this case, Nikolin Gjolena was sentenced to 11 years and 4 months in prison. The decision was issued on June 26, 2024 by the Special Court of First Instance and was upheld by the Special Appeal on December 30 of the same year.
The 16 assets that SPAK seeks to confiscate
The property investigations identified 16 immovable properties, registered in the names of the two persons under investigation, their family members and other persons related to them.
It concerns three apartments and two garages in Tirana, as well as three commercial units and eight apartments in the Plazhit area, in Durrës.
In the capital, the properties are located on “Shinasi Dishnica” street and in an area registered with ZK 8130. They include apartments with areas of 75.7, 69.8 and 68.85 square meters, as well as two garages, each with an area of 40.3 square meters.
Meanwhile, in Durrës, in neighborhood 13, the Beach area, SPAK has identified three commercial units with areas of 165, 100 and 60 square meters, as well as eight apartments with areas ranging from 60.5 to 91.6 square meters.
Transfers from tax havens, over 400 thousand euros and 42 thousand dollars
One of the elements that has attracted the attention of investigators is the monetary transfers used to finance some of the assets.
According to SPAK, from the documents administered during the investigation, five transfers in significant amounts were identified, specifically 404,733 euros and 42,942 US dollars. The money was transferred in the name of the family members of the persons under investigation and came from various countries in Central America and the Caribbean region, which are considered tax havens.
After analyzing the documentation and conducting an accounting expertise, the Special Prosecution Office has concluded that there are reasonable suspicions, based on evidence, that Nikolin Gjolena, Klevent Gjolena and persons associated with them have failed to prove the legality of the income used to create these assets.
SPAK announces that the value of the properties at the time of signing the contracts was around 1 million euros, while according to current market prices, their value is estimated at more than 2 million euros. The request for the confiscation of 16 properties will now be reviewed by the Special Court.
