The British company 'Nyobolt' from Cambridge has developed a new lithium-ion battery for an electric vehicle that charges from 10 to 80% in less than five minutes. This result is much better than the 20 minutes it currently takes to charge an electric vehicle battery using fast chargers such as Tesla's Supercharger. While it takes an average of two minutes to fill an average vehicle with gasoline.

The key to the success of the new technology is the design of batteries that generate less heat and thus prevent overheating, which can be dangerous. In addition, the materials used to make the battery's anodes allow for faster electron transfer.

Independent testing of Nyobolt batteries has shown that they can withstand more than 4,000 quick charge cycles, corresponding to a distance of 965,600 kilometers, while maintaining more than 80% of the battery's capacity.

The main chemical element in Nyobolt's batteries is niobium, but last year only about 94,000 tons of this metal were mined worldwide. The mentioned amount is certainly insufficient for mass industrial production. The Nyobolt company, despite the aforementioned obstacles, is currently negotiating the sale of its batteries with eight electric vehicle manufacturers.
