What convinces you to go on vacation? Is it a chance to discover new places? The thought of a few weeks spent basking in the sun? Or are you part of the growing trend of people leaving home behind and traveling with the goal of getting a good night's sleep.
The Hilton Trend Report, a survey of over 10,000 travelers from nine countries, has revealed that the main reason people want to travel in 2024 is to 'relax and recharge'. Sleep tourism – or the opportunity for a good night's sleep – is motivating people's holiday choices.
While the promise of a luxury hotel at the end of your trip may be enough to put you to sleep, Hilton's report found that travelers are taking relaxation into their own hands.
Because even the best hotels can't promise quiet neighbors, 33% of respondents listened to music or a podcast to fall asleep while on vacation, while 22% used headphones.
Gone are the days of choosing a hotel based on its pool, restaurant and proximity to local cultural sites. Nowadays, it's all about the bed. Okay, not quite, but 27% of respondents said that staying in a comfortable bedroom was important if they were traveling to relax.
Beyond the mattress, 18% admitted to taking their best pillow with them when they travel.
