A couple from Texas, USA, have two days to celebrate after welcoming twin girls who were born on different days and in different years.

Kali Jo Scott, 37, of Denton, gave birth to her first daughter, Annie Jo, at 11.55pm on December 31. The New Year's baby was the last to be born at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Denton in 2022.

Just six minutes later, Annie Jo's sister, Effie Rose, was born at 12:01 a.m. on January 1, making her the hospital's first newborn of 2023.

Kali Jo Scott and her husband, Cliff Scott, initially thought both of their daughters would be born in the new year because of their due dates.

She was scheduled to have a C-section on January 11, but was hospitalized for high blood pressure after a check-up on December 29.

That's when they thought their twins might be the New Year's babies.

"We had joked at that point, as we realized we weren't going to leave the hospital without a baby, it wouldn't be funny. We had a couple of friends who said the same thing, and then it ended up happening like this," she said.

It was late on New Year's Eve when her doctors made the decision to perform the C-section two weeks early, leading to the twins' different birthdays.

Annie and Effie were both healthy and weighed 2kg 500g each.

Kali and Cliff are already thinking about how they will celebrate their daughters' individual birthdays in the future.

"I had thought, you know, so traditional about one birthday, but now it's two completely different birthdays," she said.

"One will celebrate New Year's Eve and the other will celebrate New Year's Day.
