Will man in the not-so-distant future be able to overcome death, old age, and even disease, on his way to immortality?
The seemingly absurd hypothesis may become a reality, according to the predictions of futurist Raymond Kurzweil, who prophesies the beginning of a new era, which he calls "the singularity", within a few years.
In futurology, the singularity is the moment at which technological progress will accelerate beyond all expectation, fundamentally changing our reality.
These predictions are illustrated by an article in "Focus" which shows the moment of the beginning of this new era: it will happen when "independent" artificial beings will be given life and will be characterized by the fusion between technology and human intelligence.
We will experience revolutions in genetics, nanotechnology, robotics. And, thanks to gene technology, our bodies will be able to stay alive indefinitely, Kurzweil promises.
To reverse aging and cure disease will be nanotechnology, one of the fundamental revolutions of the singularity era. A scenario that has interesting and disturbing aspects, tempting and terrifying at the same time.
