Liam Payne has died due to multiple injuries to the body, as well as internal and external bleeding caused by falling from a third-floor balcony of a hotel in Buenos Aires, the Argentinian prosecutor's office has said.
An autopsy revealed that the pop star's head injuries were sufficient to cause his death.
An inquest, which included questioning five witnesses in an attempt to reconstruct the last hours of the 31-year-old musician's life, showed that Liam was alone when he fell from the balcony.
Substances indicating alcohol and drug use were seized from Payne's hotel room.
The former One Direction star died on Wednesday at 5pm local time. Customers at the Casa Sur hotel told the Guardian they heard crashing and screaming for hours before Payne died.
"I thought they were doing construction, there was so much banging, doors slamming, most of the day. It was a lot of noise, weird," said Doug Jones. "Later I heard the sirens, thinking there was a fire somewhere. And then I heard a very loud scream."
A hotel receptionist alerted police to an "aggressive man who may be under the influence of drugs and alcohol," according to Reuters.
The hotel manager stated that he heard a loud noise in the back of the hotel and when the police arrived they found that a man had fallen from the balcony of his room.
