Eurovision will be held this year in Basel, Switzerland, on May 13, 15 and 17. It will be the third time that Switzerland is hosting this event and it seems that there will be many developments as today a country announced that it is withdrawing from the competition.

Specifically, at a press conference held today, the director of Moldova 1 and the head of the Moldovan delegation announced that Moldova will not participate in this year's Eurovision.

"The decision was not easy, but it was necessary in the given context. This year's national selection highlighted several challenges, such as the decline in public interest and the overall quality of the songs and artistic performances. This event created a negative perception among experts and the public, underlining the need for a fundamental reform of the selection process," said Corneliu Durnescu of Moldova 1.

Also, participation in the contest entails considerable costs for the broadcaster. These include the organization of the final, the promotion of the artist, the travel and accommodation expenses of the team, the production of the stage, technical equipment and other costs. The annual participation fee in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) alone amounts to 21,486 euros.
