The last two months were the hottest in the history of Western European countries, according to the latest data from the European Copernicus service.

The June-July period marked an average temperature of 21.62 degrees Celsius, a full 2.79 degrees above the historical average, breaking the previous records of 2022.

Germany, Spain, France and Wales in the UK recorded consecutive waves where temperatures exceeded critical thresholds.

This wave is considered responsible for up to 30,000 deaths in these countries.

In addition to the air, the waters of the seas and oceans also set a historic record for the month of July, with an average temperature of 20.96 degrees Celsius, surpassing the previous record of 20.89 degrees set in 2023.

This extraordinary heat wave has accelerated drought in major European rivers such as the Seine, Rhine or Danube, while scientists warn that the parched land will maintain extreme temperatures for months to come.
