Sitting for a long time, especially in the same position, without getting up and moving from time to time, can have many harmful effects on the body's health.

Among the most common: neck and shoulder damage, lower spine resistance, leg problems and muscle degeneration leading to "weak" abs and "soft" behinds.

Several studies have shown that the immobility maintained for hours, often in those who work at a desk every day or who take long car trips, can also create problems with the functioning of organs, such as the pancreas and colon and on all with correctness, blood circulation, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death.

The research found that those who sat a lot and were therefore less active had the highest risk of cardiovascular disease and premature death, up to 50 percent, while those who sat more but were also more active, had a significantly lower risk of about 17 percent. The risk, therefore, decreases with increasing levels of physical activity.

The study also found that those who sat for six to eight hours a day, at work, in the car or in front of the TV in the evening before going to bed, had a 12-12 higher risk of heart disease and death and premature. 20 percent compared to people who sit for less than four hours a day.

"Reducing sedentary time together with increasing physical activity - explained the experts - could be an important strategy to alleviate the global burden of premature deaths and cardiovascular diseases."
